Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it offered to another journal for publication.

- The submission file is in LibreOffice (.odt), Microsoft Word (.docx), or Rich Text Format (.rtf) document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided. URLs may be shortened with a link shortener service.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs bold and italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
Articles and Studies
This section publishes articles and studies with original ideas, developments and new facts, as well as discussions, short scientific reports, reviews in Bulgarian or in English. The topic can cover different periods of the history of the world, of Bulgaria and the Balkans, as well as various types of problems from social, political and cultural history. The materials can be devoted to various questions from archival studies, cultural anthropology, archaeology, unresolved cases in border research fields between history and ethnology, history and geography, philosophy, linguistics, history and museum work, documentary studies, etc. Methodological developments related to new teaching methods in history, ethnology, archeology, museology are accepted.
Debuting
The Editorial Board of GSU-IF encourages the submission of papers by young researchers, mainly PhD students and postdocs, studying at the Faculty of History, with proven innovative theses and ideas, who have passed the peer-review process. It is possible that the materials are part of a doctoral dissertation in preparation or defense.
Reviews
The journal accepts reviews of published academic books and papers, concerning the fields of History, Ethnology and Cultural anthropology, Archaeology, Archival and documentary studies, Methodology of History Education. Reviews on materials published no earlier than 2020 are encouraged. Reviews may also be in Bulgarian or English, subject to the requirements for publication layout.

The journal does not require a publication fee. Each author is entitled to one printed copy of the volume. No honoraria are paid for articles.
If an article is reprinted from any issue of the Annual, this must be explicitly stated. The content of GSU-IF is licensed under the CC BY 4.0.
Privacy Statement
The Editorial Board of GSU-IF is committed to the responsible management of the personal data of all parties involved in the publication of the journal. Data protection is a core value in the proper conduct of research activities within the workflow of the journal, leading to the implementation of fundamental principles such as accountability, value and transparency. The only personal data used in the operation of the journal are names, email addresses, affiliations, and standardized ISO Personal Identifiers (PIDs), such as ORCID, which are made publicly available on this website and in the Annual itself. This data is used solely for the stated purposes of GSU-IF, namely the publication of a scholarly journal, and is not shared for any other purpose or with any other party. As the Annual is a core publication of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” the University’s privacy policy applies. The Annual’s website does not collect tracking data or host analytical services. Should there be a future request for such a service from an indexing and abstracting service, the Editorial Board guarantees that it will be open source and self-hosted, with a notice on the front page of the website and notifications to authors in future issues. No third-party tracking services will be used beyond the intended scope of the Annual, with the only possible exception being a citation metrics service if requested by indexing and abstracting services.
As the Annual of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”—Faculty of History is published in an EU Member State, it fully complies with the REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 April 2016, concerning the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation).
Therefore, in accordance with Article 13, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Regulation (GDPR), the editorial office of the journal informs that:
- The administrator of the personal data of all parties involved (Editors/Authors/Reviewers) is the Editorial Board, represented by the Editor-in-Chief of GSU-IF;
- The personal data of all parties involved will only be processed for the purpose of carrying out the reviewing and publishing procedures of the journal in an orderly and transparent manner. This means that if an author/co-author/reviewer needs information about the other individuals involved for the review process, this information will be made available to them. As far as publication is concerned, personal data will be processed to meet the requirements of abstracting and indexing services1. The above examples will only be carried out with the explicit consent of the data subject. (GDPR, Art. 6, paragraph 1, point a);
- The recipients of the personal data (i.e. names, email addresses, ORCID, affiliations) of the parties involved (editors/authors/reviewers) are the readers of the journal, other persons involved in the publishing process, and users of the abstracting and indexing services;
- As the Annual only collects the data necessary to publish academic content, this data is stored indefinitely as it is core to the publication process itself;
- Prior to publication of a given issue of GSU-IF, Editors/Authors/Reviewers reserve the right to:
- request the Editorial Board, represented by the Editor-in-Chief of GSU-IF, to access and rectify or erase personal data concerning the data subject, or to restrict processing thereof, or to object to processing thereof, as well as the right to data portability;
- Individuals have the right to withdraw their consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of the processing based on the consent given prior to its withdrawal.
